Exterior Taking Shape
Finally, the exterior is getting attention. The house will really start to take on a finished look. Don’t be fooled, there’s plenty of slow-going finish work inside – it’s just not nearly so visible or exciting, unless you’re the contractor. We had a huge snow dump on February 25th which brought work to a temporary halt. Since then we’ve been experiencing more seasonal weather. You’re seeing the remains of the snow which has all but disappeared now. Spring may actually arrive on time and this house could be ready to sell for the typical homebuyers/shoppers time of year.Tuesday, February 16, 2010
Making REAL Progress
These photos were taken just before the end of 2009. Unless you’re tuned to fine detail these photos won’t tell you much more than that real progress is being made. Yay! We are actually starting to think about an open house date – could be as early as late April (somewhere around Earth Week celebrations) – when INHS officially places the house on the market. We’re also making tentative plans to offer a workshop for folks who are interested in learning more about building with SIPs and the other energy-saving measures that we’ve incorporated.Thursday, December 3, 2009

1st Floor SIPs panels go up FAST!
Despite some rainy weather, Scott Croteau from Panel Pros (the company that built the SIPs panels) showed up and General Contractor Dan Seymour and his crew installed most of the first floor wall panels. Yea!
More narrative to follow. In the meantime there are lots of photos here:

Watch 711 Hancock St. go from bare dirt to an energy-efficient affordable home!
Hi, we are happy to announce that ground was broken for the INHS SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels) home on September 15.
This project is part of the High Performance Residential Challenge in a cooperative effort with NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research & Design Authority). INHS is working with NYSERDA and a team of architects, engineers, designers and other building professionals to take the next step in energy efficient residential construction.
In addition, we are looking to keep with INHS’s mission of building affordable housing. This means that we will not just be looking at the latest energy efficient components and building methods, but we will also be taking proven technologies and applying them to the design and construction of this home with cost effectiveness in mind.
